    Oil catch tank

    Hello all
    Quite pleased with myself today, i made an oil catch tank complete with a pcv valve for under a tenner! Nows thats value!
    Used a water bottle from boyes ( an everything shop) for £1.99 pcv valve for £2.49 and bits around the house. Most expensive thing was the epoxy to hold it all together. It has a pipe internally on the inlet from the rocker cover to keep the oil mist away from the pcv and some ss scourers to condense the muk out.

    Some folk would call that a bodge, personally I call it a fix.

      Nice colour too - you could sell this on ebay for £25 without the PCV valve

        Okay I am probably going to appear stupid asking this question but here goes anyway! "What is the purpose of an oil catch tank?" What perceived benefit would you get from fitting one to a Stag?

          Well Bruce, it looks nice and it makes you sound like you have a vast knowledge of things mechanical !!!
          But really, it just collects any water vapour and nasty oil mist that makes a mess of your engine bay when you fit a webber or holly carb. The original set up didn't need one, as there was a system already in place.
          The original ideal was for turbo charged cars that had a lot of oil in the induction system from the turbo seals, this could cause problems so it was collected in the tank. When a stag engine gets a bit worn there is pressure in the crankcase that can cause leaks, and orrible oil smells, so this system can help to alleviate it when used in conjunction with a vacuum connection on the inlet manifold.
          Hope this goes a bit of a way to explain it

            I ran my car with one when it was fitted with Stroms too - it just keeps the muck from going back into the engine, new or old.

                Any oil in the induction system gets burnt and causes blueish smoke at the tail pipe if excessive, it's the oil in the crank case gases that is trapped in the catch tank due to the lack of negative pressure in the crank case that the factory set up provided with the stromies
