    Dammmm again...

    Todays WTF's

    1) Just tried to fit the new rubber grommet that fits around the steering column as it passes through the bulkhead and keeps the water out....WTF....!! l could get my little finger between the grommet and the column.

    2) Re-assembling the petrol filler to the body when trying to fit the rubber grommet that goes under the filler....WTF ..Far to big, how is that gona make a water proof seal.....
How efing hard is to make these parts the right efing size..????

    3) The dowel bolts l bought also not the right size....shoulder to short to go through both parts properly.

Gave up early before l set fire to it all........

Now you get the idea why I machined down larger bolts to get the alignment right then change over to ordinary - some of the so called dowel bolts just ain't.....

Yep just another example of current parts being useless, a much moaned about subject here on the forum.
Parts suppliers please take note "PLEASE STOP PEDDLING PARTS THAT ARE NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE" you are going to kill the goose that lays the golden egg!! It's time we had some naming and shaming on here as to who is supplying these rubbish parts.

Yes but they are fitted to the car! Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

i didnt have dowel bolts available when i did my bw35 - man o/d conversion.

I identified the "dowel bolt" holes on the bell housing, went through my box of bolts and found a bolt that was a nice tight fit in those holes. lined up the gearbox and fitted those slightly larger bolts first. left everything loose until all bolts were in place and then tightened everything up.

Clutch is smooth. why the fretting about dowel bolts I dont know.

bigger issue was with the clutch cover bolts that were more or less exactly 1mm too long. not the OE bolts fault but the slightly slimmer cover. shortened them with mr hacksaw.
