    Easy liftout rear seat back.

I'm sure l read a thread about fixing the back seat back in hooks so it can be lifted out to get to hood cables...

Just use strategically-placed heavy-duty Velcro, job done

The idea is to file out the seat back fixing holes to a keyhole shape so the fixing screws can be pulled through the wide part of the hole after lifting the seat back slightly.

My overzealous MOT tester checks for the fixing of the rear seat and failed my Toledo last year because the seat back could be pulled forwards, so I had to fit it properly for the first time in 16 years!

Sounds more like Customs and Excise!

I did the ''keyhole'' thing a while ago and it works well, just adjust the bolts to give a snug fit with no rattles.
Doing this gives a bonus of good access to a bit more space underneath the hood for spares and a petrol container etc.
Also as someone once mentioned, it gives access to the tonneau cables if one should snap, when trying to open it.

Might fit in nicely with my plan of moving the battery to the wasted space under the folded hood, also allowing a much larger (Jag sized) battery to be fitted. It will probably be topped off with internally trunked cables going to the front and an isolator hidden inside the car so I don't have to open the bonnet each time I want to isolate, as I know I rarely bother (if ever).

If the isolator were inside and easy to reach, I could use it every stop.

If the seat where easier to remove, it might allow a little battery access with the hood down? I guess I'll find out when looking at the feasibility of the whole idea.

              Regards

When they rigged my RIB they mounted the battery under centre consoul which never worked very well as when the top charge was knocked off the motor would not turn over. I moved the battery to the stern in a waterproof box shortening up the cables then all worked fine.

Yep. One is full of tools, the other full of emergency spares.

Very good of Mr Triumph to leave the space for these essentials

                  Cheers

Julian - I see yours is just on Velcro - so you haven't had any problem with the MOT man? I don't want to do the job only to fail the MOT.

                      Hi Chris,

No, I've never had a problem and have got through three MOTs like that. The only thing is that my MOT man is classic friendly so may not be quite so thorough.

Just one other point - I like to unzip my rear window whenever I fold the hood but found that it was hard to leave it unfolded with both bags there so I have reduced the contents slightly and currently have just the one bag.

                      Cheers

                      Julian

hi,just take the seat back out when you go for the mot if youre worried,im a tester and we cannot test what is not there its just a pass and advise also if you remove rear seat it cannot fail for seat belts either as no seat , no need for seat belts though I prefer to make sure all my seatbelts work ok

Julian - I've got one bag like that already behind the seats - but struggle to get to it at the moment - so the mod is on my to do list. Wanted space otherwise.

Jeff - now that's a nice sly way around it.

It goes for MOT on Monday and I won't have done it before then so it would be next year anyway.

                          Cheers all.

best of luck with mot for Monday.there are 3 holes into boot from tonneau space I just connected a secondary cable to catch and ran it into boot urgo no need to modify any further and easy access via boot into tonneau space should the unthinkable happen

Point taken Graham (I think?) but cables running from the boot to the bulkhead seem to run all my Jags OK, nice thick copper jobs they are, and guess which marque would be the donor of mine
