    rolling road tuning

    Took Stag to a rolling road tuning specialist and has been money well spent and saved car from possible damage as was running too lean a mixture.

    I thought my Stag was good but now performance is way better.

    If you are in North West area then I can now well recommend this specialist:

    That was lucky. Do you have standard Strombergs?

      Nope, Weber twin choke and after fitting Active Breather System (ABS) it thrown out air and fuel mixture but now runs like a dream.
      The tuner specialist has done Stromberg's on Stags and other classics and can tell by his whole persona he knows what he's doing.

        Glad its OK now, weak is not good. Could they correct it with the idle mixture screws or were new jets required?

        Mine has been on the rollers a few times and its a relief when over.

          he actually stripped the carburettor and found muck in there so needed clean as well as tune but not required to change jets.

              £120 + VAT initial half hre test then spent approx. 2hrs tuning.
              I got to tour Congleton and a couple of cafe's , coffee + scones and lucky with weather so sat outside a café with dog that always in my shadow.
              Drive back was like a different car, very responsive.
              The guy is a professional , also a rally driver and tunes them high end things.

                Sounds good.
                Did he give you a print out of the power and torque figures?

                  Well there the thing, would be able to if it was a manual but not an automatic. Not sure why but someone also told me that a while ago.

                      Just been told by tuner the following :

                      jet changes .I drilled the idle from .50 to .55 and the mains I changed from 140 to 155 from memory

                          Hi all

                          Finally got around to giving this a go. I had been a bit disappointed by my fuel consumption figures over the last 5000 miles (about 20mpg), so decided to have this guy look at it. He discovered that the Strommies were nowhere near balanced, and that the mixture was too rich at idle and in the low power range, though generally Ok at the full power range. So he balanced it properly, tinkered with the needle and got the low end to be OK, but then it was suffering fuel starvation at full power. So he 'shaved' some material off the lower end of the needle to increase fuel flow for the full power case.

                          Went for a test drive and it behaved like a different car. What surprised me most was the exhaust noise. I had been used to the V8 roar but mine tend to also have a 'crackling' sound as well if I accelerate hard - sounded really good! Now it is a much smoother sound (more like other people's Stags!), no more crackling and the car now pulls continuously higher up the rev range than before.

                          Max power output was only a measly 112 bhp at 4,400rpm, but it is a very old engine. Said he had revved it to 4,800 rpm (he sent me into town for coffee so I didn't have to listen to it). When i asked him what it sounded like, he said 'great!' and advised me to get out there and welly it in future. You have been warned!

                          Overall, really pleased as I can feel the difference this work has made. Price was £70 per hour +VAT, so my bill was £210. If the consumption improves from 20 to 25mpg, I reckon I only need to buy 170 gallons of fuel to break even. Am I likely to do that - yes, I hope so!!

                          Worked for me so I am happy to recommend - no connection to the the business in question.

                            Sounds like one for me also when I get that plug thread sorted, first recommended referral I've seen for someone reasonably near Manchester.

                              His website mentions discount for clubs. Perhaps the next to visit will sus out the terms available for SOC members and confirm on Forum and/or SOC mag.
