    What's the difference between mk 1, mk1.5 and mk2

    Good evening chapsssssss,
A little question regarding the differences between stagssssss
Mine is a jan 74 example but my dear old dad may have confused me with subtley changing it by fitting alloy wheels shiny sill covers and black painted rear panel.
I sssseem to remember that the mk1/1.5 had the lights on the T bar in a different position.
Can anyone give me the headssssss up on thissss
    Thankssss
    Love Snakey

MK1 had the lights in the B posts. MK2 had a single lamp with twin bulbs fed from each side of the car in the t bar.
MK1.5...... no idea but mine has both!!! Because I acquired a MK2 t bar and Mk 1 b post covers!!

Lot's off people have added alloys, body stripes, sill mouldings etcso it's often hard to tell Mk1 from Mk 2 the different door latches are a good give away or the black rimmed instruments on a Mk 1 but I'm not sure what Mk 1.5s had?

Jan 74 will have had black painted tail panel and interior light in the T-bar.

If built in Jan 74 then it will be a LD30000-series Mk2

I've always assumed that what makes a Mk 1.5 (and this plus MkI and II were not official designations) is the combination of the Mk I instruments, seats, steering wheel and interior fittings, the Mk I hood with rear quarter windows. and the Mk I piston shape but Mk II style radiator and cooling layout (pressurised system, different plumbing etc) and air filter arrangement and function. I think a few other things changed before the full 'Mk II' update. Some of the differences relate to standard specification and options at purchase.

I also get the impression that there is a bit of a continuum with some cars having late/early specs for some parts and not for others. There were also changes to things like the ignition points after the first few cars and the removal of wiring to a temperature warning light.

Mine is a Mk 1.5 spec (I think!). Built Dec 71.

Based on that definition my car is a Mk 1.5 too. August 72 (#13332). Federal car.

MK 1 I found out has only one spring clip for holding soft top back when stowing away, my MK2 has one on each side

                  Trev

I stand to be corrected but I think I remember that they had one spring loaded one (as both sides on a mk2) but the other side didn't have a spring and was supposed to drop into place by gravity. I guess Triumph were trying to make it easier to fold/unfold so that you didn't have to go round both sides of the car.

                    Cheers

                      Bruce,
The so-called Mk1.5 Stags are generally accepted as those in the 73 model year (late 72 to late 73) with commission numbers in the LD20001 series. They have Mk1 bodies but everything else is mainly Mk2 including hood, seats, instruments, badges and engines. They don't have hazard lights.
Mine is 7 from the last built - Nov 73.
Yours is a Mk1 built after they changed the cooling system, as was my first Stag which was also Dec 71 built - LD10567

The main difference is in the door locks and the catches fixed to the B-posts. From Approx LD30001 the catches resemble modern cars in that they are a type of 'staple' on a plate fixed with 2 screws. Before that they were a larger unit fixed with three screws. You cannot simply bolt a Mk1 door to a Mk2 body, or vise versa.
