Help from the experienced

Not sure if this is a good idea or not , as i know and some others on here we love our stags and sometimes due to lack of experience as i have and some other people do .

As there are so many helpful people on the forum that will help you out at a drop of a hat .

the people that do have the problems and lack of experience could we all not arrange say an expert run where the nearest people help the ones out that are not so experienced , this would save a lot of garage bills , and the unexperienced would learn something , and be able to keep the stag they love on the road and maybe donate some money to a charity for work done .

Its just a suggestion , i think it will bring club members closer together in keeping our cars on the road .

I think you are right in so much that people will help in times of crisis,however on a regular basis would prove tricky as we all lead such busy lives..
Always plenty of guidance available on here but any more than that probably wouldn't work in my opinion..
Others might think differently..

There was a scheme called the "nighthawks" where people willing to help others in trouble register their details. Not sure if it still operates.

You should read the forum and magazine more.... Andrew Smith resurrected Knighthawks a year ago and some, including myself signed up...

It is more about emergency assistance with breakdowns and spares for out of town members, with the odd piece of tourist advice thrown in.

Not the sort of thing to be used for queries of the type the forum is there for though....

What does your local club do or offer? Our car club does this once or twice over winter, but it's tough to do everyone's car and time-consuming for the 'teacher mechanic'. I really appreciate my Stag having its front suspension done as a workshop led by a Brit-trained mechanic and 4 other guys willing to learn and help out. I donated to the club charity and provided beer and brunch. We also have a project car to do up, learn techniques and then sell for the charity. Maybe it's different here where we are so isolated from commercial classic car specialist garages, but maybe not?

Well i did contact the club rep for our area to which he replied he does not know any garages that could look at my car and did not offer to look at mine either so was not impressed

Not very helpful! Most Coordinators I have known (including myself when I was one ) would at least try and point a member in the right direction. I can't believe that there is nowhere in the Gloucester area. Try contacting the Coordinator for a neighbouring area. They are a pretty helpful bunch in the Bristol area.

I really feel sorry for Paul about this.

I was glad to be able to help by fitting a new alternator when that seemed to be the cause of the problem and, when I left, all seemed well However later the noise returned

Unfortunately, I am a little bit too far away to be able to help with something that could take a while - with my journey time I am only really able to spend just a couple of hours there.

So, anybody nearer Gloucester who may be able to listen/advise/help ?

Paul, I'm going to try and check back and find the name of the guy near Gloucester who I helped out a couple of years ago and see if he can suggest anything.

Hi, I would be happy to have help from experienced members, whilst I'm not mechanically inept, I'm no mechanic, my problems are my car is parked on the road and I lack the confidence to start jobs as it seems to me, from all the posts I read that most things on a Stag are not as straight forward as perhaps they should be, I would be willing to help and learn and help others where I could.
