    Damaged wire

    Hi i have a narrow piece of wire that runs from the carbs to the distributer with angled rubber push on fittings, can i buy a new piece and if so what do they call it??, Thank you Martin

    That is the vacuum advance pipe it is not a wire.

        Hi Martin,

        only if it is bent so the pipe restricts what little air passes through it or split will it upset the vacuum advance of the distributor. You can check by disconnecting it at one end and while running the car at 1500 rpm, if there is no noticeable difference in revs then it is probably broken and should be replaced - Rimmers, Paddocks, LD Parts all sell this thin tube.

          Your vacuum advance will not work properly and so you may have some running problems although unlikely to be major.

          Fortunately not expensive or difficult to fix Just a push fit at either end: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID005193
