    A Bridge too far?

[align=left]Recently received via Email the attached photos of the Millau Viaduct on the road that links Paris and Barcelona.

At least one Stag has been across the bridge, I remember seeing something in a past issue of the Club Mag about it.

I wouldn't dare try it myself as I have a fear of heights & am still plucking up courage to drive my Stag up Mount Teide.

Any Forum users been across & do they have any Photos or Video footage (ideally with Sound Effects?)

I have driven over this, although not in the Stag, and it is not in the least daunting. It looks far more impressive from a distance. Also, Terry, you haven't driven up Teide? how could you not drive up there when you have lived there for so long, we have been to Tenerife 3 times and every trip I manage to drive up Teide either towalk upto the summit or the observatory.

Shame on you Terry! - Alan

I am off on hols Sunday morning to do a tour around Europe a bit starting at Amsterdam working down through Germany towards the med planning to cross the Millau bridge on the way to Toulouse (boys want to see the airbus museum) then on to my parents who live in the Dordogne. Unfortunatly not in the Stag so Camcorder yes but microphone on the bumper no, won't be the same on Mitsubishi 2Ltr Diesel

        [align=left]Hi Alan,

Your right - I should have taken the Stag up Teide by now.

I've been up a few times but always when there have been at least 4 of us and we've used a larger car.

When I do go up I'll take the camera, the camcorder, and maybe a microphone attached to the bumper. A Stag on Teide looking down on the Planes heading for the Airport should make for a good picture.

        Terry

Always good to see a stunning bit of British design, our very own Norman Foster's I believe!

Here's me on my bike, going over the bridge a couple of years ago!

As you can see you don't realise quite how high up you are.

PS rode to Morroco and back 4.5k miles in 12 days!

Ewan and Charlie are a pair of poofs!

We did it with virtually no planning and no back-up vehicles at all!

We (4 in total ) had loads of adventures in that relatively short time.

                  Here's a flavour

                  1. When we met up at Dover to get the ferry, Steve (an ex-pupil, for I am a motorcycle instructor) announced that on his way down he had hit 80mph for the first time and that in 6 months of bike ownership he had covered the grand total of 500 miles.... our first night was spent in Clermont-Ferrand 564 miles from home!

                  2. We performed life-saving first aid on a local donkey cart driver after he was rear-ended by a lorry! ( he wouldn't accept any pain killers or even a sip of water because it was Rammadan!) go figure!!

                  3. The other member of the group Matthew, crashed his bike into a ditch in torrential rain at 70 mph on the way back as we approached the North of Morroco. We managed to beat the bike back into some sort of shape and patched up the hole on his cam cover with a piece of old car tyre found at the side of the road and chemical metal. He covered the remaining 1100 miles without incident!

Loads more I won't bore you with, you had to be there!

Kevin - I hope that in all those 4.5K miles you did, at least once, LOOK WHERE YOU WERE GOING!

                      Hi Terry,

One of our local members, and his Wife, recently returned from a 3500-miletrip to Southern Spain in their Stag. It took them 3 attempts to cross the Pyrenees due to heavy snow! On the way back they stayed in Millau and then drove the bridge before returning home.

                        Hi Terry

Well just got back from tour of Europe. We had patchy weather it cost us a fortune and we are all knackered.

Saw very few classic cars during the whole fortnight. A mediocre exhibition in Amsterdam showing a Fiat 500 a 2CV a Beatle a Mercedes and a Porsche and not a lot else. A Midget on the motorway and an Australian Austin Healey in Interlaken it had been to a meet in Sweden.

I enclose some pictures of the Millau Viaduct, incredible structure. I am not sure whether the video will appear as it was recorded by my 12 year old, looking at the rest of what he has done technical competence might be lacking but it might be worth a laugh.

As for the hight if it wasn't for the high pillers you wouldn't really realise how high you were.

                        Watch this space.

My haven’t you all been busy three pages of posts to look at since the 10th.
