Fresh (but paid for I'm afraid, 1st June 1974 M reg'd) tax disc hit the mat this morning. It was on the screen by 8.00. A couple of hours work and then a long awaited play with the toy...
Rang Aldridge Trimmers (Wolverhampton) to make an appointment for an evaluation on my hood and frame, so I took a nice dirve over there - what nice, helpful people! Simon went all through the faults with me and made suggestions on how to fix them, it really does save a lot of time when you know what shape this rod and that arm should be, and how they got bent by the PO. More good news is that my almost new looking hood (already fitted for the PO) is both salvageable and made of Mohair, I'm still learning about hoods and had no clue what it was made of, I still don't but it sounds good!. Simon wouldn't take a penny from me, one day I'll repay that favour twice.
For cases that need repair on site, AT do a medium hood repair and set up service at around £300 or so and a major, hood off and leave it with us for around £600. Simon advised that I didn't need to go that far and they are flat-out busy anyway, such honesty is rare and apppealing. Looking at some of the work being undertaken in their 'shop, it was more like April Drool. I'd recommend them to anyone.
Used the car for a couple of short hops in the afternoon and went out in it at dusk, never driven the Stag in the dark before. An amusing fault raised it's head. The tacho would not go over 600 rpm although the engine would. It worked all day though?
As suspected, when the lights were turned off the tacho worked once more, must be some wiring gremlin in there but that'll get sorted sometime.
Still April Cool though!
Regards
Steve
