Newbie help please - cooling fan hitting lower rad mount

    Hi,

I'm a new Stag owner and I'm also new to this site. I'm hoping someone can offer me some advise or help please.

I collected my 1973 MkII last weekend and on the way home, there was a clattering noise whilst I accelerated. Upon inspection, I noticed that the cooling fan blades had partially disintegrated. As I was nearly home, I continued. As the car has stood for several years, I assumed the blades had become brittle and perished, so I ordered a replacement viscous coupling and fan from James Paddock.

Whilst trying to fit them today, I noticed the mounting of the fan was different (see photo). Assuming it was a design improvement, I continued with a trial fit, but the blades contacted the lower rad mount. I refitted the old unit and checked the fit, although not touching, the gap is very close, see photo.

Can anyone advise if this gap looks correct? If not, I assume that either the engine is too far forward, or the lower rad mount is too far back. It looks like the car has had a recent lower front valance.

Any advice warmly welcomed!! I am itching to get driving the car, but this is stopping me.

Or too low? Check your engine mounts - by all accounts there have been some chocolate ones about in tbe supply chain recently.....
