    puddle light wont go off

Ok so the clutch is now fixed,so is the petrol leak,oh and the dodgy christmas tree rear lights and MOT booked for tomorrow, what else could possibly go tits up now I hear you ask. Well I went into the garage to get bozos ball for a run and noticed a strange red light inside the car on the drivers side. Yep the puddle light was on and wont go off, took the door switch out for a look but it's doing nowt. Strangely though if I use the main interior light switch to put the T bar and console lights on the puddle light will work normally only coming on when the door is opened and staying off when closed,I've taken the bulb out for now as don't need a flat battery on MOT day. Any one had this before or any tips please ?

just wondering, as the main interior light switch has been disturbed when the gear stick came out for the clutch change could the cables have been reconnected incorrectly ? has any body got a simple map of what goes where ?

      Hi Peter,

Do you have one, or two, contacts on your door light switches ? Once I know that I may be able to help.

Muddling up the wires on the interior light switch can give all sorts of odd problems

      Cheers

That's good as it's the system I know best

I too had problems similar to yours after I'd had the interior light switch out and I spent ages sorting it out. I now think I understand the (surprisingly complicated ) system thoroughly and, in fact, I'm in the middle of preparing a write up to clarify the light wiring systems for anybody who experiences problems.

I hope to finish that soon but, in the meantime, the back of your switch should look like this:

          That is:

Good luck - I reckon there's a very good chance that just getting the wires sorted will fix your light problem however if it's still not sorted then do come back and I'll be happy to try and help further.

          Cheers

Well done Peter. It's amazing how many different permutations one can get with those wires and every one produces a different, but always odd , result.

Glad to have been of assistance.

              Cheers

Yep, definitely confusing Two purple wires usually signifies earlier type system with twin contact door switches. Quite how yours works with one contact I have absolutely no idea

If it all works though, I'd leave well alone.

I'm still hoping to post an interior light explanation, but now going away for a few days (in the Stag - yippee ) so that'll have to wait.

                    Cheers

I worked it out in my head and on paper once. Then I lost the paper!!

At the moment there are two bulbs in the tee bar but only one is wired from the passenger side door. The B posts also have holes for lights but no lights. I will be fitting some sort of light in them but the wiring will have to be customised (bodged!)
