    Petrol smell in boot

Since converting to EFI last year I have had a petrol smell in the boot. Checked all connections to the new plumbing. Pressure tested tank and system, apart from SU pump as I didn't want to damage the valves, all OK. I had fitted new washers to the pump banjo bolts, seems that the new washers were slightly thinner than previous ones, so the banjo was "bottoming out" on the fuel pump body without the washer sealing fully. The washer sits in a recess in SU body. Cure was an additional washer.

    Simples when you know.

Are you sure that underneath the first fibre washer to pump there wasn't a o ring , there are are both my connections . It sits in the tiny recess I seem to remember . My pump may be different to yours however it's worth a look.

Thank you for your reply. Very sorry not to have replied earlier but I have been working all day and not been on forum!!

My reservation is that petrol swells many types of O ring, just look at the carb pedestal O ring. Only fibre washers are listed on Rimmers and LD parts sites, no doubt on others too.

        Hope that's polite enough

That's great I was not only questioning your set up I was wondering if my previous owner fitted incorrect seals although mine look good.
          Cheers edd

Good spot Edd. Very misleading as the fibre washer is a perfect fit in the recess, just a bit too thin when compressed. I don't buy from Wards after a bad experience a couple of years ago. I will have a word with Peter.

If it hadn't of been for noticing the o ring in my old parts from the pump I would have gone fibre too.
I'm sure I have the late pump the link mentions .
                  Cheers for now
