    Sills

    Hi all
Bit the bullet and started sill repairs. First time I have done anything as big as this, so heres hoping!!!
Core of the car seems quite good, the reason the sill needed doing was bodged repairs by PO allowed rust to take hold.
Pictures (i hope) with more to follow.image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

looking not so bad! The worst bits are usually where the floor level changes towards the front of the car but yours doesn't look so bad there. A good wire brush off of the surface stuff to make sure then red oxide primer by the bucket full.
Good idea to disconnect your battery before your welder strikes its first spark too!

I would check the door lines before you weld the new sill on as they can bend without the correct support with the sills removed

If the rest of the shell is sound and as long as the roof tee bar is still attached and the inner sill is intact it is unlikely that the shell will sag whilst it stays still.
It is advisable to put in a door brace if you do both sills at once but if you are working on one side at a time it ought to be OK

Trust me. Only working on one side, the other side was done last year by a specialist? Thats why i am doing this side, cant afford the £1500 plus!!!!
So far i have been surprised at the ease of getting the old one off. Ohhh, hang on, thats put the kiss of death on the job!

Always nice to know what your driving around in when your nether regions are only a few inches from the black top when doing more than a mile a minute!

Got the sill on, but now i am cursing the bodyshop that did previous repairs. The front wing has had an arch "fitted", i say fitted but mean thrown on, left 95% of the old metal, and about 1/2 inch of filler. Going to make fitting the lower wing repair panel a challenge. Has any one out there got a cheap front wing going begging? Cant afford the current prices!!!
I will post some pictures when i have cooled down a bit.

Wow, you weren't joking when you said there was some filler. They must have had shares in Isapon. If you fit a new wing I believe that you would improve the mpg by about 2 or 3 mile per gallon
