Door handles

My door doesn't look anymore the key just keeps turning. So going attempt to sort it out. I have a spare handle with all the parts and can see how it works, but what worries me is taking the handle off, how easy is this. I took the door card of a few weeks ago and thought it all looked hidden and a bit fidly and thought if I get this off will it ever go back on, so took cold feet. Can I ask for anyone's advice on this

See the threads above. When I had the same problem you describe it was because the door mechanism had become detached, there is a linking rod that pops off quite easily. It is all fixable from inside-admittedly bit fiddly and awkward work but I did not need to remove the handle-indeed of you do you'll still need to re-locate the mechanism.

It's more tricky than difficult. Two 5/16 headed bolts hold it in place with top hat type washers at the back of the handle. You need a 1/4 drive set socket with a decent extension as there are a couple of holes in the door for the extension to pass through . One is easy towards the front the other you may need to pull the handle lever as if to open to gain access to the small bolt. There are two points of lever connection . One you engage when you fit the handle and is fixed to the lock the other is the handle by means of a clip on lever bar simply flip the small tab of and it will come away . Once these are removed you handle might need to be pushed down slightly as it's slid up between the door skin at the top when refitting . Once lose its a case if slowly turning the handle and it wiggles it's way out . On refitting watch out for new gaskets they differ in thickness making the sliding action a nightmare as clearance can make it a tight fit . A bit of grease will help . Hope that gives you an idea

Hi Bruce, thanks for the reply, but it needs to come off, the mechanism and linking rod seem to be fine. It's just the barel, it just turns and turns, I think the securing clip has come off, I,m a bit hesitant to take it off, but going to have a go
