Speedo head removal

Hi All,

I've managed to separate everything from my speedo head and remove it from the dash, except for the odometer reset cable.
Any advice on how to undo this please?

the odometer reset cable is fastened to the dash by a knurled nut down by the left hand side of the steering wheel,just follow it down from the speedo,it then unscrews easily.

IIRC That's either a bayonet fixing, or it has a pair of tangs - either way it's bl***y hard to get out.

Try getting two small electrical screwdrivers in at the edges (whilst you hold the speedo with your third hand ). Again IIRC, it often breaks upon removal

On the Mk2 it's attached with a pair of tangs, and yes, they do break... But luckily ours seems to hold well enough with just one tang.

Thanks all of you. I was removing it to get at the black ring behind the glass which has gone a bit rusty.
I might leave it as I'm reluctant to break something for a non essential job - there's plenty of other jobs I could be getting on with!

remove the speedo from the car complete with adjuster cable(undo at the dash end)
do not try to prise out the cable it will snap
remove bezel and glass,undo the two rear fixing screws to remove the drive and face
then bend back tabs with screwdriver from INSIDE

Excellent Alan. I got as far as Speedo head out but, as I said, was unwilling to risk unnecessary damage.
With your info I'll now get that done.
