DVLA and Historic problems

Not happy - really very P'd off!

Sent off the V5C to note our new address on the 21st March and also sent the BMIHT letter confirming build date as 24.11.1973 in the same envelope...

Today I get the new V5C with the car registered to our neighbour's address and by separate letter to our old address a V11 telling me the tax expires at end of April and to cough up another £225 for a years tax!

Now I know generally that if peanuts are paid it is likely only a monkey will be employed to do the job but quite how even the thickest of individuals (far below the intelligence of even the dimmest monkey) could read the house name of Woodlands and put Oaklands instead is beyond me and then to compound matters by ignoring the BMIHT letter and issuing another tax demand....!

And my/your hard earned cash pays for these blithering idiots to be employed!

Come the next revolution.......

I have to wait until 2017, so hopefully by then they'll have got over some of these issues.

Pretty poor performance from a government body though - we are entitled to them being, at the very least, competent - but at least your neighbour gets the parking tickets.

When I registered my daily driver I had to send the V5 back three times as the muppets couldn't seem to get a simple data entry task right. That was 4 years ago so things don't look like they're getting any better.

If they hadn't shut the local offices we wouldn't be discussing this now. It would have taken moments to pop in and get it sorted face-to-face with a human being across a desk. The lady I spoke to in our local office back in November couldn't have been more helpful, even though she was losing her job the following week. Now we are stuck with overloaded desk jockeys and an automated phone 'service' in Swansea!

They are a complete and utter sham. My job involves requesting ownership histories from them and they want to know the ins and outs of a duck's arse before they tell you anything! I'm convinced their staff are targetted on how many they can reject. Be interesting to know if any DVLA staff are forum members on here.

It will be 'interesting' to test the situation I'm now in as if I don't get the logbook back with a historic disc by the tax renewal date i've got no other way of renewing it anyway. So, I will continue to drive it with the expired licence displayed on the basis the Government (the employers of the idiots at DVLA) have declared mine and others of that build date are tax free.
I wonder what plod will do faced with that one - probably put me inside for a year!

You still have the issue (temporarily at least) of Failure to Display, or failure to SORN.

An unfortunate consequence of closing the area dvla offices and have to post it is that you can't keep hold of your Heritage certificate, they don't accept photocopies and they won't pay for a replacement if they lose it.....

I had my Heritage Cert photocopied and the copy stamped/signed by the local office before it closed. It is now with Swansea, so I hope they accept it as a certified copy.........

I sent a standard photocopy of my heritage cretificate along with all the other stuff on the 1st April, I have a new V5 showing the change of taxation class to Historic but no tax disc yet. I telephoned earlier in the week and was told that I should wait at least another week and that I could not drive the car until the disc was in my possession. Maybe they've been caught out by the rush!
