    Brake Master cylinder

    Good evening all!

    This is my first post in the forum and am hoping someone might be able to help out with some technical knowledge. I'm currently working on rebuilding a '74 Stag that's been dry garaged for over 20 years and has now been passed on for me to clean up!

    I've just taken off the existing brake master cylinder and in the boot found another one that looks brand new. I've taken both of them apart and can now see that they're not quite the same. The original is marked 3212-218C 7/8 and the other is 3212-815C 13". The outer casing is exactly the same in both as is the sequence of seals but the bore looks smaller in the new one.

    The old one doesn't look in great shape when compared to the "new" one (especially as I slightly scored the piston trying to get off a particularly stubborn seal). Does anyone know if using the 815C is a definite no-no for the Stag? Will it affect the braking characteristics or reliability significantly?

    The smaller bore will have a longer pedal travel but will take less foot pressure to operate. Probably won't have an undesirable affect but if you are 'driving enthusiasticly' eg a track day, and the brakes get really hot the travel will increase quite a lot.
    My advice is suck it and see.

      Thanks for the advice John. Just got to find new seals for the cylinder and am thinking will give it a go with the smaller bore and kept the original in case!
