Not really any further on. Still using about 100 miles per pint. I need to lift the head on the nearside bank to get to the bottom of it as there is no indication of anything wrong on the driver's side. I've been holding fire as i was intending taking the stag to Le Mans (1200 miles) but another issue prevented that and had to take the Saab. i don't have a spin off conversion. I've been driving the stag regularly and reasonably hard but cannot create any improvement. A little more smoke now, though not noticeable in the mirror, as I've replaced HT leads and plugs all round. No. 2 showed signs of oiling but there was a bad lead causing intermittent firing so oil mist was going through without being burnt. I'm hoping for valve stem problems rather than ring issues.

I think I have the same issue with SWMBO's TR7. I changed the cam cover gasket using the Stag method of gluing the gasket to the cam cover with silicone and then a thin smear of sealant on the head mating face and oil consuption immediately improved as it was no longer leaking. In just a few hundred miles its leaking worse than ever and I noticed that there is positive crank case pressure evident when i remove the oil filler cap. I checked the compession figures again and its all good and the breather is clear to the carbs so I am suspecting that the gauze is crudded up. I'll have a bash at cleaning it by running some solvent through before I start messing about cutting and welding the cover though.
