Servo leaking Noise

Hi, I shelled out for a reconditioned servo, but when I cut the engine I can hear a loud whistling noise from it.

it appears to be an air leak between the servo and master cylinder.

I have never come across anything like this before.

Has anyone come across this before? Should I send back to the supplier? Means I will have to disconnect the master cylinder again.

It seems you are loosing vacuum somewhere, before taking off again check the non return valve and its seating first. this is the connection to the pipe going to engine on the servo.

Found the problem..............


I have been in talks with the servo supplier whom I originally blamed for the problem, but when I took the master cylinder and servo off the car today, the root cause was obvious. The seal on the front nose of the master cylinder which fits inside the servo is too small. There is no resistance when you mate the two halves. Luckily, I have three old master cylinders in my garage and I tried each of them with the new servo. All required a reasonable insertion force to mate with the servo as you overcame the seal pressure.


I fitted one of these old master cylinders to the car with the new servo and the problem has gone away.


When I measure the outer diameter of the rubber seals, it would appear that the one on the new master cylinder is 0.5 to 1mm smaller than the used ones on the old 40 year old units I have ! No wonder it is not sealing........


I am really, really unhappy about this as I paid the extra money for an original Lockheed part so that I would not have any problems and I have now wasted hours and hours over this defective part.
