    Back to the fold

    Hi all,
after two year break due to having to fund a car for work, I'm glad to say I'm back in the Stag fold. I bought a 1976 French Blue 1976 model; auto with black interior. Not too bad a condition, not as good as my last but probably now more willing to use it!

It's now reg NPK 76 P but has been quite a few over the years, ADA 7; 285A (Cyprus), RKL 518, MGO 535P to name but a few. Have many others had so many?

      Thanks Bruce,

The colour is great, nice and fresh. I wouldn't mind knowing how it might look with a tan interior or whether it doesn't work well - but that's well down the list of to do's.

        Welcome back David.

If you do ever go down the change of interior route, just be aware that the colour I would call Tan, Triumph called Beige . Their Tan is Saddle Tan which is much more orangy. Wouldn't want you buying an interior and ending up with the wrong colour by mistake

Of course, you may know all this and, if so, please forgive me for trying to teach grandmother etc etc

        Cheers

I think you'll find that the term 'beige' has slipped into common parlance (especially in James Taylor's books). In early Triumph literature it was actually referred to as Light Tan so as to differentiate it from the earlier introduced Saddle Tan. As Club Archivist, I've seen all sorts of descriptions for this shade of trim.

Derek is, of course, quite right

The official Triumph colour chart from October 73 lists it as 'Tan' but the September 74 one shows it as 'Beige'. As David's car is a 76 and mine is a 77 I was, of course, only referring to the descriptions used for that age of car

Btw I was surprised to see that even the oldest colour chart I've got (Sept 72) doesn't show Saddle Tan.

I would agree with Derek's "I've seen all sorts of descriptions for this shade of trim" - when I worked in a Triumph dealer in the '70s, one of the more common descriptions was 'biscuit'.

              Cheers

Thanks P Andy, yes I have difficulty imagining the two colours, maybe I should stick as is or wait till I've seen another. The car was re-painted at some stage and the match is a couple of shades darker than true French Blue which is a same... it's bordering on mid-blue. There's lots of bit to sort out on the car before changing stuff yet.

                1) Fix small crack on dash top.
                2) Get the car tuned.
                3) Re-stuff the seats.
                4) Go for 4 speed auto or manual + overdrive
                5) Fit a period radio
                6) Replace some sections of bumpers
                7) Refurbish door handles
                8) Fix clock (yeh)
                ......
                x) Respray

The list goes on... whilst competing with my GT6 & P4!

ADA 7, was a show car back in the 80's If I remember the then Surrey Area Co- Ordinator's Car, funny thing is saw the reg on another stag at the well known Stag garage just out side Guilford
a couple of years ago if not more and wonderd what became of his car, as the reg had changed ownership.

The car was well known at the time as he was very active within the Club, sure it won a cup or two, in fact must be some pictures in the old Stag Mags from the 80's

Be nice to see it brought back to how it was

Back then that's what we called it, and my mates from those early days still refer to it as biscuit, glad some things have not changed

                        Hi Glyn,

Glad to be back and indeed would be great to meet up. Checked your post history today to see how my old girl has been behaving... sorry about the Fuel & Pump issues . Though you have probably already done it, given it is 3 years now, I did ask Faversham about the chains and they believed that at the time they were good. I will probably have to do the same as you regarding the seats as they were done prior to sale but I think they have just been stuffed as opposed to using the proper foams.

                        Cheers

                        David
