    Thanks Kryten.

I've just done the test. Before start under 11 (hadn't been on charge for long). Started fine and running at 1500 voltage rose to about 14.

Turned all lights and blower on and it dropped stabilising just below 12.

Turned all off and is rose again to 14.

So what do you think would be a normal voltage drop?

However I am reassured by this. Even if there's a weakness in the system it's only showing up under heavy load and it's rare that's the case. It's had it's service etc for this year but if it comes a bigger problem I'll have it back to Yorkshire Triumph to have on the ramp. Richard down there owes me a favour.

Or remove it from the loom altogether? Thanks a million Russ, you may just have saved Drive-it Day for me if I get my finger out

Just tape it back - just in case at some point in the future you fit a battery sensed unit....

Half a volt on a drop test is too much, especially as you could have half a volt on the earth circuit and another half on the power side.

The beauty of the drop test is it is very quick and saves dismantling all the earth leads etc to check the connection condition.

As with any of these tests, you should start with a minimum 12v at the battery so charge it fully before checking thoroughly.

You are looking to be between 13.6 and 14.4v at the battery terminals when loaded and 1500-2000rpm
