'New' Differentials

I had a re-con diff from SOC Spares (as was then) about 15 years ago - it whined a little straight from the day I fit it and still does, possibly a little more now.
Problem is, what's the best one to replace it with? If I get another re-con one its going to need the new cw and pinion but does anyone have any rec's as to which supplier can supply a good reliable non-whining diff - or do I just get the current one done on the basis it may only need some re-shimming to relieve the whine?
I don't want to go the BMW route - can't be bothered with that one.

I probably won't do it until the end of the year anyway so no panic - yet...

Hi Mike,

IIRC. E J Wards are reconditioning their differentials using crown wheels and pinions built to their own specifications to overcome inherent quality issues in the originals. I've no more information or experience but probably worth a call to Wards if you're interested.

Wins do one £550 exch with new crown and pinion wheel fitted, guess you could ask them where they source the parts and what guarantee they give?

There must be a decent independent someone has used?

Just looking back on old forums and I see Hardy Engineering in Leatherhead come up as a good outfit - certainly £1,000 +/- is a silly price and both Rimmers @ £700 and Paddocks for even less puts this into perspective but I just wonder if the supplier of the new cogs is the same for all...?
I'll likely use H E in any case, their work is not restricted to Stags.

Asking a silly question maybe, but why change the differential when it's the CWP that causes the problem of whining ?

I used central axles in birmingham 01217720121 They charged £350.00 for a rebuild of my 3.45 diff. Three years ago and no problems.Mike.

It's worth a punt, the problem with the CW&P is that, other than the Wards ones, everyone else uses a TR6 CW&P which isn't exactly the same as the Stag one, hence so many recon diffs still whining to varying degrees.

SC Parts are advertising CWP for the Stag in Practical Classics. I cant find it on their website though. The ad in PC says they are tested for noise.

I dont know but they do say its for the "classic triumph IRS" but then as far as I am aware the TR6/2000/2500 and Stag diff are identical in this area so I am suprised to read they are different in this thread.
