    Oil in the dashpots

I topped up my carbs on Friday. But one was perhaps a little too full (i.e. up to the very top of the neck where the piston screws in rather than at the bottom of the neck). I let some out.

But I had a question - does it may any difference if the dashpot is completely full of oil?

I find that any overfill leaks out anyway.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I agree with Wilf, I remember from my Volvo 360, which had a single Stromberg, any overfill leaks out so no big deal really.

      Enjoy your fab Stag!

      Cheers,

try not to overfill as the excess could find it's way onto the rubber diaphragm and over time this will rot the rubber and create a hole which results in lack of vacuum, no piston lift and lack of power to 4 cylinders, nasty !!

Peter - took a long look at my strommies last night. Excess oil from the dashpots will come out through the top of the screw-in plug, and over the outside of the top of the carb, I can't really see that it can get onto the diaphragms from there.

Even if it did, the diaphragms have to be petrol proof, so I can't see a little oil hurting them, both being similar hydrocarbons??

Any expert on rubber (careful now) care to comment?
