      image.jpgMight of found out why the Stag felt sluggish. Changed the plugs and found one plug where the gap was caked up, Crap photo but I've removed some of the crud but it's still bad, other 7 plugs were a nice beige colour if thats the right term also looks like my fuel pump has given up as the car wouldn't start, got volts at the pump but no ticking and no fuel in the filter.

        Charged my booster unit up and had the battery on charge for an hour and the car is running, had 10v at the pump which is obviously not enough to run the fuel pump, with 12+V it runs, phew just got the rear shocks to change now before Runswick at the weekend.

          Dave,

          Was that one of the rearmost plugs by any chance?

          Well done on getting it back to life anyhow.

          Regards

          Steve

            No Steve it was no 2 cylinder on the drivers side cylinder head, the more I look at it The more I doubt it was firing at all, weird thing is all the plugs were a nice "straw" colour so I don't know how it became caked up between the electrode and the body.

              Dave,

              Interesting....I'm just looking for patterns in circ's new to me - older cars with earlier technology, often left unused for log periods.

              The car I'm beginning to restore had No 7 plug caked up like yours, with the others looking quite normal. I have 2 ideas;

              1. That the plug in mine had corroded due to that cylinder's valves being open, allowing damp atmosphere in.

              2. That a leaking inlet manifold gasket allowed coolant (and perhaps just plain water at that) into that cylinder.

              I hope your problem does not return, but I guess you'll be monitoring it.

              Regards

              Steve
