    abinger hammer

does anyone know if abinger hammer do bodywork / painting / etc?

Also - would anyone recommend them?

Basically I'd like a respray and the closest 'staggy' type place is abinger hammer motors who I know nothing about.

    As a secondary angle......

Does anyone know a good bodywork/resprayer type place near High Wycombe/Beaconsfield (I live between the two)?

    Cheers folks!

I would see the guys at Faversham myself. A respray is worth doing properly and going out of ones way for and they have a good reputation for bodywork. The train ride back to London is quite easy.

Abinger Hammer actually have a very good reputation for quality, although I understand you also need fairly deep pockets

Expensive in my opinion. Work I had carried out was good on one occasion, not so good on another.

Of course you tend not to get 'cheap' with 'quality' - it's quite rare.

Dammit! Why can't there be a Stag place near me? (I know that engenuity is close to my work but I had to sell one of my arms and a leg for some work a long time ago - which made it difficult to drive home).

Faversham seems to come up regularly in positive terms - didn't know they did resprays. I have a local chap who does good work but if you saw my other thread there's a question over 'which blue', hence the move to full repray.

          Thanks everyone

I would defo consult with Favershams (Trevor and Kevin are really nice guys)

They do paintwork in house and although i haven't had any paint done by them i did buy my current Stag from them and i have seen their paintwork and i thought i was very good.
I used to be a sprayer many years ago and i am really fussy with paintwork if thats any help.
They only work on Stags as well and know them inside out so i am sure you wont be disappointed

There is a chap I use in Flaunden near Bovingdon called Bowron Motorcare. They specialise in classic restorations and he has just sold his own Stag for an eye watering amount of money. He has done all the work on my Stag for the last 3 years and I have no complaints about quality or costs ( after the initial intake of breath!).

He does do some very very good bodywork spraying and I have seen his recent projects as MGC, Jag 120, Rover P5b, Ferrari 348 and all looked lovely.

Have a look at their website and Bob is really good and a "straight up" sort of man. As good as Faversham are its a long way from our area.
                Hope this helps.
                Mike

When I saw 'Bovingdon' I thought - "that sounds far away" but after checking a map its on my side of Amersham - which is a 15 min drive away!
I wonder whether your 'intake of breath' was due to too many zeroes after the £ or as a result of a pleasant surprise? Unfortunately - these days there seems to be no 'pleasant surprise' regarding how much things cost.
Faversham look and sound great and also have a good reputation - but the distance..... erk! Also I had a quotation back that goes way over my budget but then they cannot see my car so they have to set out high expectations otherwise a wasted trip could ensue - if you see what I mean.
I tried to find an email address for the Bovingdon people but couldn't. I think I need to go down there and check them out!

I've just had a dent fixed and door resprayed at Stag Classics at Meadstead near Alton. Paul did an excellent job for a reasonable price.

Is that 'Alton' as in 'Alton Towers' way?

Alton is in Hampshire, Alton Towers is in Staffordshire.

                          Hmmm.
Might look into that option too.

                          Thanks for that.

Apologies for delay in getting back to you but been busy at work this week. Bowron are in Flaunden which is next to Bovingdon. Their website is www.bowron-motorcare.com

Nice people. No connection other than he does most of the work on my stag over the last 3 years. The sharp intake of breath happens with most invoices for me these days. We all know that classic car bills can be a bit daunting. He serviced and MOT'd the car with some fettling for £300 this year. Hope it helps as he is not too far from you.

I do actually need an MOT too.
I think a visit is due!

                              Thanks for the info

P.S. Do you think it's ok to just turn up for a look?
