Quick question. If you do a welding repair and it's all new metal, do you paint the metal with say black hammerite and then waxoyl over? I am helping a friend and the repair is in the arch / sill area and he has the paint and underseal.
I would clean off the weld and immediate area, prime it with a zinc rich primer (Halfords etc.) then paint / underseal as required. Try and seal the back face of the weld with the zinc primer if you can reach it.
I did my underneath with 2 coats of brush on red lead then 2 or 3 coats of Smoothrite and then black waxoyl . Been done since 1995 and no sign of rust returning .
