    Soft top spring

Over the last week with the top down, the spring that sits behind the frame keeps slipping off with a bang and I cant keep it in place. The other end as you can see is secured behind the lower body coloured folded metal plate

Why is this spring pinging off?

I haven't tried to lift the soft top up again to see if it cures it when I lower it again as I thought I would ask first

    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Andrew

Andrew, i also have an issue with that spring.one of the frame arms has a leading edge to it to make sure the spring goes one side of it but mine keeps going the other side(hard to explain) which makes the hood very hard to fold.I have a new spring to fit but its getting a roundtuit thats the issue.May be yours is the same?

    Cheers Steve

Thanks Steve. I have tried to bend the spring more towards in the inner direction of the car so that it has a better chance of staying in place, but it hasn't worked.

        Hi Andrew,

I had the same problem which I cured temporarily with duct tape - wound a bit round the spring and other end round where it sits. It was ok like that for quite a while but eventually I bent the spring inwards so it couldn't slide out past it's limiting point.

        Cheers!

I think you will find the "J" bar which connects to the rear hoop is catching on the spring and pushing it out of it's locating tang. You can re profile the leg of the spring so that it sits closer to the side of the car. It needs to be bent closer to the fulcrum of the frame so the J bar is deflected to the side of the spring by the flange on the corner of the J bar. It can help to compress the locating tang a little so the spring is more reluctant to dislocate too.
                  hope this helps,
                  regards,
                  Raoul
