The little blighters hate the smell of moth balls. Might be worthwhile positioning a few of those under/around the cover.

Always a good idea to let the car cool before putting it in the garage.
I had a problem with mice eating my new motorbike in 2003 and had no further problems when I allowed it to cool first. This was not before a few rodents went to that big hole in skirting board in the sky.
