    igition coil for Lumention Optronic

    Hello everybody,

Last summer I built in the special Lumenition coil for the Optronic system with a ballast resistor. Now I have the feeling that this coil is getting "tired", as the engine refuses to start when the engine is warm. No problem with cold starts.

    a) Do you think this might be a coil problem?

    b) Are other coils perhaps more recommendable (and cheaper) than the Lumenition one for the Optronic?

    Kind regards,
    Dieter.

With a hot engine, have you checked to see if you actually get a decent spark when cranking? Just pull off a lead and connect to a spare plug resting against the engine metal work and get an assistant to turn it over while you look (don't touch!).

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions without some diagnostic work first.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

After a lot of hassle with overheating coils I used a Bosch Red one in the end, I managed to get one s/h, they're not cheap but I'd certainly use one again.

Worth checking your ballast resistor bypass wire is still attached to the starter motor. When I switched off the Stag engined estate in the queue to Stoneleigh this year it refused to restart even though it started fine that morning when cold. After being pushed to the side of the road by an MG owner (oh the shame)!!!!, I found the wire had fallen off the starter and it burst straight into life when reattached.

            Hello everybody,

Thank you for your hints! After I retuned and balanced the carbs the hot start was better again.

But, Neil, I will check the bypass wire, too.

            Kind regards,
            Dieter.
