    Whines and noises

I have recently noticed two 'new' noises which I could really do with some help.
A noticeable whine when the clutch is disengaged at standstill, disappears when the pedal is pressed, and the second is a another 'whine' when I turn the steering wheel even slightly when stationary, power steering unit?? Any help for a novice Stag owner would be great. Thanks. Nick

    Clutch sounds like thrust bearing.

The one that goes when you depress the clutch is gearbox, typically worn bearing or worn layshaft. Worth checking your gearbox is topped up though as low oil will make it noisier. power steering you can normally hear a hiss on hydraulic systems any oither noise will be wear in the power steering pump.

Thanks Terry, Ian. It's in for a service next week and to have timing chains replaced. Could be an expensive trip.......

Maybe not too expesnsive. If you top the gearbox oil up and it gets better then you can probably live with it perfectly safely for thousands of miles. Worth checking power steering fluid level too although low fluid on this usualy has other symptoms. Again though my pumps noisy and has been since I bought the car in 1986!

Thanks Ian. I appreciate your advice. Fluid level on power steering is good and always has been. If yours has been ok since 86, I won't worry too much about that one. Thanks again.
