    Bowron

    Ok - about the car.

It's very sound Mk2. Auto ZF. Only limited rust if you REALLY look for it.

Paint good - waxing brings it up lovely.

    Wheels great.

    Downside:
    Two dents:
1)a physical 'dink' in the drivers door. You can see it in the reflection (i.e. - no 'point' or scratch)
    2) a bump beneath the rear left under the bumper behind the wheel
    3) The odd scratch
    4) pitted rust (not much) in the rear bumper.
    5) kinks on the chrome 'slam' area for the soft top
    6) A boot that's hard to hold up because the hinge area on the RhS has broken.
    7) All rubber seals are crap - I've stuck seals over seals and no good. There are gaps around the closed doors
    8) Door cards quite simply don't stay in place - they are ivory leather so the whole appearance is VERY disappointing

The soft top needs doing but I would like to entrust that to south east trimmings due to rave revue.s

    So.... options....

    Cheapest:
    Remove dents
    Remove scratches
New seals all over the place
    Boot lift repair
    Paint

    Medium:
    As above but with....
door cards to fit completely properly
    chrome slam area replaced
    body made more 'rust proof'
    respray full car.

    Expensive but dodgy:
As above but a change in colour exterior (i.e. not removing the engine)

    Very expensive:

above but - change colour of car including removal of engine

I have no idea of what the costs are going to be but - especially the cheaper options - surely it can't cost the price of a "new" stag (as it were).

The other thing is - waiting list. Summer's here and it would be a PITA if the job is finished just as the summer decides to pack up and go.

I think I should start by getting a load of new bits n pieces together (e.g., the slam area for the soft top)

    "Plunge" - here we come....

You don't think I read EVERY post on here do you Dave ?

I still think it's an odd title for a thread - If it was 'Rimmers' or 'Abinger Hammer' then OK, but I, for one, had never heard of Bowron

        Cheers

          You are not alone Julian.

I had no idea what Bowron meant either. I assumed that it was some modern day acronym for something (like lmao, roftl etc)

          Every day learn something new..

Yeah, I agree, I first thought about the Irish drum 'bodhrán' which is kind of pronounced like bowron...

Whoops - Should have thought harder before giving the subject name - I guess I was still in the 'bubble' of the conversation on the abingdon thread.

Lesson learned! I'll remember that I'm not the centre of attention in the future !!

Anyway - time to look for bits 'n' pieces to form part of my 'smarten stag' project as it were. Bits like the chrome slam area where the soft top locks down on to (I really must increase my vocabulary to actually know the names of these bits!!!)

No worries Stimpy, you're in good company here! I for one find the ROM and for example Rimmers parts catalogue very good for finding out the names on different bits and bobs, and the Stag does encourage a very steep learning curve in that regard....

Good luck with smartening up your pride and joy, let us know how you get on.

                    Cheers,
                    Joakim

I think I'm going to reign in the erm.....reigns a bit and get the car to look very good. Changing colour and replacing everything was an evolution of an 'I want....' scenario.
I'm going to visit Bowron - hopefully next monday. In the meantime I've gone to ej ward and ordered a new high Amp alternator - extended cabling and IGN dash lights - I've decided to 'renew' the electrics from the the alternator backwards as an act of servicing -and hopefully to solve an issue in another thread of mine to do with damn electrics. Getting ej ward stuff and not ebay stuff might well give a bit more quality too!!!
Because the alternator is high up on the left side I went for the extended cable (I'm hoping the extension lead will have the 2 big females and 1 thin female on one side and the junction thing thats under the water bottle on the other side) or something like that.

My big worry - now that I have decided not to go over the top in painting and tidying - is the timing. I really need that Stag on the road with the summer sun in the sky. Its what It's nvernted for !!
