Is it too hard to make mirrors that fit and are fit for purpose without modification? My Tex mirrors are fixed to a poor quality crudy piece of plastic which were supposed to be fixed to the door mush the same idea as a rawlplug.... total tosh. I fixed the base to the door fixing by using a panel nut inside the door on stainless steel self tapers they do the job ok. Then there is the cheap and nasty fixing of the mirror itself to the plastic base... a grub screw which wedges itself to the plastic.. if you are lucky. I was on one side but not on the other. The passenger door mirror is as loose as a goose. They adjust fine but the fit to the door is rubbish

Hi all,,thought it was just me.I thought I would take the plunge and get rid of the ''clip ons'' fit the ''proper ''Stag mirrors.i spent a lot of time trawling through the posts and got my son to align them on the masked off area, then carefully marked them and triple checked everthing to find the drivers door mirror ,when fitted, wouldn't adjust enough.i bought those (jaguar)plastic washers, couldn't get the screw lined up,put a thin screwdriver in to put some tension on,got the screw in to find there still wasn't enough adjustment, had a brainwave and fitted both plastic washers...It worked,,but later noticed one of the washers had split...I think I might try bashing some metal washers .
Got mine from robsport,it's not their fault,it's the manufacturers,,,robsport offered me a return, but what do you do with the holes in the doors?
Another rant over,,,must change me pills.
      Regards
      Ken

I have had not issues with the admittedly "crudy" plastic fixing for either of my tex mirrors. I can only think that the drilled holes on 73Stagmans doors are too big, in which case, and just like a rawlplug, it will be like a dick in a bucket.

        I prefer the design of plastic rawlpug fixing on my mirrors as;
        a) i didnt need to strip down the door to fit
        b) i could do it all by myself in about 30 mins including tea and standing back to admire my work.
        c) the plastic insulates and protects the paint
        d) if I were to lose a mirror in an unfortunate drive-by incident it is more likely to pull out rather than try take the door skin with it.
        e) my arms, wrists and fingers are not double joined! required to fit a nut to the inside of the door whilst screwing (snigger) from the outside. possibly

Did Triumph ever fit "jaguar" door mirrors that you adjust from inside the car, think they were fited to Federal exports iirc.

I dont want to start an argument over these mirrors but there are better available and I fitted better quality items to my Spitfire... however

          b) i could do it all by myself in about 30 mins including tea and standing back to admire my work It took me about thirty minutes on my own including the tea except in my case its coffee
          c) the plastic insulates and protects the paint The plastic bits are still in place and do the protecting thing
          d) if I were to lose a mirror in an unfortunate drive-by incident it is more likely to pull out rather than try take the door skin with it. I reckon that if the door skin isnt damaged if mirror gets pulled off its not fixed securely enough
          e) my arms, wrists and fingers are not double joined! required to fit a nut to the inside of the door whilst screwing (snigger) from the outside. possibly did the job on my own and my wrists and fingers aren't double jointed either.

My argument about these mirrors is that they should not be sold as fitting to the Stag if they also require extra new bits being added to make them fit the car. If a "washer" or "disc" is required then they should be sold as part of the "kit"

you are correct, I am correct, etc etc

I strongly agree with your suggestion that the mirrors should be supplied with the black plastic cup washers btw

Sorry for that.... I think The point is ..... we agree basically. Even if the major sellers have to repackage the mirrors with the new bits... at least the buyer would get a full set of mirrors which work...
