    Stag Door Trim Problem

Tried to fit a nice passenger door panel today to my 72 Stag. What a Nightmare, the push clips are crap ! I couldn't get any to clip into my door.
Another rubbish design. On a positive note, I also bought a second hand and fitted a really nice Coin shelf into my car today. Sadly while under the dash I found some corrosion where the bonnet pull catch is located, not sure if its the dash that is corroded.

The modern German cars use plastic push in clips which do a far better job. Would these fit in the Stag ?

Any Tips on the Panel clips ?

Regards the Dash Corrosion, I may have to remove the Dash to take a better look, Is this a usual Rust place in the Stag ? Is the Dash easy to remove ?

    Hi Nick,

Re the door trim clips, LDparts sell a stronger type. This type was pretty commonplace back in the 70s and whilst not brilliant longterm, I'm not sure if I'd describe them as rubbish

You can see quite a bit of surface rust in the dash area but usually nothing too much to worry about. As for removing the dash, I reckon it's fairly easy but that depends upon your personal level of competence and confidence.

Ultimately, there are three bolts/nuts each side - two bolts that go through the sides and into the A posts and a nut that clamps the top of the dash to brackets near the wiper wheelbox. You need the instruments and glovebox out first of all. I reckon I can pull a dash in about 30-45 minutes.

    Good luck.

    Cheers

Regards the Dash Corrosion, I may have to remove the Dash to take a better look, Is this a usual Rust place in the Stag ? Yes, due to leaky windscreen seals.

Is the Dash easy to remove ? Yes.

        Nick,

Some clips are as you said. A lot depends on the condition of your door card and the plastic inserts located in the holes in your door. I had a similar experience and so have many others, you should check previous posts. The best solution I found were the clips supplied by LD Parts, again recommended by previous posts, whilst a pain to remove again should you want to, I think you'll be happy with the results.

Dash might be corroded due to water ingress past the windscreen rubber in the corner.

There are some black or green ones on the market that are too loose, but the shiny ones sold by LD Parts are usually very tight. Are the plastic inserts still in place and in good condition? If they are missing or damaged then nothing will hold.

Thanks for replying Dave. The plastic inserts are still in place. I will order the door clips from LDparts and have another go.
