Today as it was raining....guess what....my intermittent wipe went to being in normal wipe mode. Is this a relay thing ??

Ah ha ! Mine's been doing that intermittently for a couple of months. However, with mine, when it starts doing that you can't even turn them off
It's likely to be related to the parking switch somehow. There is a permanent feed to your wiper motor so that, if you turn off the wipers mid stroke they can continue (powered by this feed) until the parking switch interrupts it.
Originally I dismantled my motor and cleaned everything. Although worn, the brushes seemed to have a fair bit of life in them. On re-assembling the motor, all worked well for a few weeks until it started playing up again
This time, I noticed that the small arrow on the motor body wasn't quite lined up with the mark on the top part of the motor. This could allow some misalignment of the armature in relation to the brushes. I slackened the two long through bolts and re-aligned it and it all worked ok......for a few weeks.
Finally, dismantled and cleaned again and this time it's been ok.
The only thing I haven't done is the most obvious - slacken the two (very inaccessible) screws on the parking switch and move it slightly. As mine works ok at times I didn't think that was the problem, but who knows ?
Good luck Malc.
Cheers
Julian
