    Ignition Timing

Sorry for such a basic question - but what's the easiest way of doing the ignitiontiming (standard Triumph V8 auto) ? The Haynes manual seems overly complicated from what I remember from my younger days on other cars !!

    Cheers,

I used a Gunsons timing strobe, it's much easier and more accurate than the manual method.

It looks like the Haynes manual section about timing assumes that the distributor is not already attached to the engine. You should find that your engine will start, in which case, as Nick says use a timing light. I was to impatient to wait for ebay so I bought one in Halfords!

You don't need the bent spanner. Just unbolt the coil and move it out of the way and a normal spanner will reach.

Don't forget to use cylinder 2 when adjusting the timing.
