Some of you may know if you have read my ad in the wanted and sale section, I have been looking for a propshaft for my bw65. They must be like hens teeth because no one came forward with one. I had ads on Other sites but no good. Looked at general suppliers and the price ranged from aprx £220 to get 280. Ouch.Anyway, not one to enjoy having trousers down to often, I found a company in Leeds. They said they would make my one off (cos that's what they do) for £95 plus the government's bit. Ordered it last Tuesday put it on the car yesterday. Now if that ain't a good refreshing change. So if any of you out there want half shafts, propshafts, etc try Dunning and Fairbanks. ( and no I haven't got anything to do with them).

Thanks Paul. This is also a good example of expensive parts from some suppliers. Words "Triumph and Stag" in front of an item puts the price up. When I was in retail we had a sliding scale of profit margin, ie items up to say £5 was 100%, then for higher priced items the profit margin reduced so when we got to the more expensive gear we would be looking at aprx 18-20%. If I was in the business of supplying say, a propshaft , I would have done my homework (like I did do) and found the best supplier with a competitive price, and then sold it on for a reasonable profit without being greedy. When I was in business I learned that if I sold items too expensive I still sold them but if i reduced the price (and still made a nice profit) I sold far more. I was also happy that I had more customers walking through the door who bought other things as well. I swear some suppliers can`t or don`t want to. I have had a moan about this before on the forum, but to me and others who do their homework before buying parts it`s not too much a problem, but I do really feel for people who don`t or can`t shop around because it will end up being a very expensive hobby.

Let's do it. It will be very handy and may even shake the retailers up. Everyone deserves to make a living but I don't like it when suppliers charge the earth for something you can get much cheaper just by shopping around. What we need is a page on here with suppliers and items with original part numbers or reference numbers that will identify that part.
