    Good News re Stag Reliabiliity

I haven't made many posts recently as it seems so long ago that I had a problem to report that I needed advice on.
In fact my last post was about Stag owners Pets.

You often see bad news reported because it makes for more interesting headlines, but not so much good news, so I thought I would check and report back on how well my Stag has been behaving of late, although I may be tempting fate in doing so.

I keep a log of everything that gets done on the Stag, and on looking through it, since the beginning of 2012 there is not all that much to report, admittedly I don't do a lot of mileage on Tenerife, but do use the car at least twice a week.

2012: In April & May I fitted a new Alternator (from Paddocks), and had new brake cylinders fitted when I found the existing ones leaking, then in June replaced the old battery which had reached it's sell by date. That same month I also had some minor touch up work done on the car. In October I replaced a faulty door speaker with a new one acquired from Maplins, and that was it for that year.

2013: In February checked and topped up oil & coolants etc., and in May took the car to a local English mechanic to have the underside inspected – but he said everything was fine underneath. In June traced and rectified a minor electrical fault affecting the dashbord instrument panel, and in August replaced a carburettor petrol pipe that was starting to crack with a new one. Nothing more till December when re-tuned the Strombergs, increasing the mixture by a full turn on each (it was a little weak), but then had to be taken home on the back of a breakdown wagon when Stag came to a sudden stop when out. On checking the car at home next day discovered a coil lead had been shaken off on a bumpy road I had been traveling on, so re-connected and “crimped” it up and been fine since. Whilst checking the car over found a loose plug (which I re-tightened), and a loose fuse (which I also fixed).

2014: Only thing that has happened is that in April I had some bodywork repairs done to the drivers door that had started bubbling. Nothing more to report except that this year I removed the hardtop (having found somewhere to store it), and put my tonneau cover on in it's place.

Who says Stags can't be reliable. Since January 2012 I think it has cost me about £500 excluding petrol, which with the current exchange rate works out at less than £1 a Litre for unleaded.

I've covered nearly 15,000 miles in 4 1/2 years of ownership.

I hope I'm not tempting providence, but my car has NEVER failed to get me to my destination Ok, I've had to do a few minor roadside repairs but I agree, who says Stags can't be reliable ?

    Cheers

I agree completely! I would jump in mine now and drive it anywhere, and I mean anywhere, without hesitation. I have driven it for 64,000 miles and counting...

Drive a Stag every day... it's wonderful!
