I,m trying to plan the order of build regards my door inners . I fitted the chrome strip today then had troble getting the frame in. Do i send the frame in partially then fit the chrome outside trim ?
    Any other tips /
Any help would be great .

    Hi Edd,

I'd put the window frame in first and then make up a U shaped tool to put in the chrome trims afterwards - if you look at some of the suppliers you'll see what the 'tool' is like - sure you can make one up.

    Good luck.

    Cheers

Hi Edd, I stripped my doors about 4-6 weeks ago and made notes for rebuilding.
In my notes I wrote, put the window/motor/mechanism in first and push to one side, fit the window runners and when it comes to fitting the motor etc you don't have to struggle around the frame. I mite be talking out of my ....... but might make it easier..

The trouble I,m finding is I,m setting higher standards than when I took it apart . Nothing fitted at all today . In the end I had to grind off the top bracket and shorten it weld it to make the whole assembly come back towards the rear to engage on the rubber b post seal . I,m elongating all the holes too for more adjustment . Now I,m doing dry run on both side before even thinking about the final go . Then at present I have no hood so might require that to adjust too also . Julian has helped letting me know the fame sits more or less level with top of a and b post capping which makes sense . I,m starting to wonder why I thought fitting this item to the car would actually fit but it's getting there now .

Its a bugger to do.... How they did it in the factory without scratching all the paint off along the top of the door. Well.......... I fitted mine complete with the hinges to the shell. Crap, don't...they are so heavy and getting the bolts in the hinge to frame, jeeeeez DONT do it alone.....lol

                Edd,

I'd be very interested as to how you get on with the front chrome trim/weather strip clip with the frames in place. I too fitted the frames first and then the trim/clips with the hand tool, but I cannot see how the front clip gets in with the quarter light in the way!

                Cheers,
                Mike.

hi mike having just done it I understand the frustration. I used a off cut of the 1/4 light window rubber to create a interference fit in that area . Whilst fitting the trim I made up two wood wedges to move the glass over . I then put the clip on the body first then engaged the trim working back then when all started used the tool to fully engage ensuring a clip is at the furthest point at each end . easy really (eyebrows up )

Many thanks to Julian tonight , i tested my windows after re greasing the whole unit and cleaning armature they worked perfect well half way . Julian told me i have one slightly long bolt fouling the arms and hey presto it solved the problem . He really is a clever chappy indeed .

                        Looking great

                        Frame first, trim last.
Havent used the tool, but it would help reduce the number of times the panel has to come off to fit more clips! Any loose clips shoudnt rattle when they get stuck into the waxoyl!

The door catch rod securing clips are unavailable, but there were some on ebay last week.

In their abscence use a piece of foam & a cable tie to stop them rattling.

Do check the channel felt resistance.....some channel is too tight on the glass.

Cheers guys . I used a bit of dum dum on the end of the tool to stick the clip on after dropping it a few times it's a good tip . as I said above to achieve the b post fit I cut the top bracket and welded it back on basically so the captivated nut was nearly touching the frame . I still retains the angle on the bracket but the frame now sits as far back as possible in the door frame itself .
The foam us a great idea I hate the clatery sound of those rods yuk.

Thanks Edd. I will have another with the trim front clips go while gently 'easing' the glass out of the way!

                            Cheers,
                            Mike.
