    Reversing Lights Permanently On?

    Hi. Can anyone help?

Reversing Lights are Permanently On in reverse, drive 1 or 2. But not Park or Neutral?

Brake lights, running lights and indicators have no effect on on or off.

    Any ideas?

    thanks.

Is yours a Manual or Auto?. If Auto check the Inhibitor switch underneath the transmission.
Sorry - just noticed you mentioned Drive 1 & 2, so yours is obviously an Auto - but is it a BW35 or BW65 because I believe the Inhibitor switches are different.

It sounds like the bulbs need removing - that'll fix it.

A more technical fix would be, I think, inhibitor switch- either adjustment (likely) or renewal (less likely).

Adjustment is covered in the Repair Manual and you can access the switch on a BW35 via an access panel under the carpet on the transmission tunnel. 65 switch is easier to access underneath on the end of the selector cross shaft...

Thanks guys. For the drive home that's exactly what I did, although just unplugged the electrical connectors. Thought there was no sense in attracting unwanted police attention. BW35 so will whip up the carpet and see if I can make matters worse. Thanks for help.

        Simon.

          Hi Kryten,

Have read through Haynes, can see the switch placement. You right "inhibitor switch- either adjustment (likely)" but could not see where adjustment might be possible.

          Can you help?

          Thanks Simon.

If you have the removable panel on the tunnel, you can ignore all the propshaft removal rubbish and just concentrate on slackening the nut and adjusting the switch.....

            Good luck mate

Not much. You could try doing it empirically by slackening the locknut and turning the switch 1/4 turn at a time in D until the reverse lamps go out, then check the starter only works in N and P and the lights come on only in R. If you achieve that you are sorted....
