Hi is it possible to change Solernoid on Stag starter motor without removing it from car? Cheers

Yes! It's a bit fiddly but you can do it. There are lots of threads on here about rebuilding a solenoid as well.
I'm just working out how to get the starter motor off!

After you've worked out how to remove it; and it's the top fastening that will test you; Do yourself a favour.

Re-fit the top starter-motor-mounting-bolt with the nut located behind the bellhousing and not as you found it with the bolt head there. It's still awkward to access but better than trying to get a socket, on the end of a cranked extension bar, into place. At least you can actually see and get your fingers on the nut this way round.

You will still have to find a means of holding the bolt head but you only have to find it once.

I welded a turn-stop lug to the bolt head if that helps.

It is a lot easier with a manual box car as they use studs not nuts and bolts, but a 3/8 drive socket is about all that will fit!

Thanks for the advice all. I've read Neil's "how to remove a starter motor" article so I will be borrowing socket extensions from everyone I know tomorrow morning!
Hopefully my decision to buy a manual car will bear some fruit!
