    Anyone in Perth, WA?

I'm moving to Perth, WA in late July and am seriously considering exporting the Stag. I know we have a few members on the east coast but can't recall if anyone hails from the west.
Does anyone have experience of importing old cars into Australia? I have an Import Authorisation but know nothing of how to get a car approved and licensed. I'd be pleased to hear any advice, either on here or by PM.
    Thanks, Ross.

    Hi Ross,

I don't know if there are any SOC members in Perth but I do know of one Stag enthusiast that is right into them over there. He does a fair bit of re-engineering on them making up things like CV joints, etc and recently took one in Targa Tasmania.

As far as importing I can't imagine there would be too many technical issues given the car was sold in Australia and you drive on the same side of the road as us. Can't say what is involved from a procedural perspective but knowing our government it won't be cheap.

    Good luck.
Stag, sunshine and country roads = joy!

Someone did say once that they had/wanted to, change the doors to US spec.

Yes I am in Perth. I have not imported a car into Australia however I did look into it a few years ago when I spent some time overseas. The government websites do have some good guidance material. Craig

Thanks chaps. The websites do have a lot of information, but scattered around various pages so integrating the advice isn't always easy. As for cost, who knows?!
At least I could use the car for most of the year (summer excluded as it's too hot; that seems strange coming from the UK!).

Do you have details? Might be useful to know. Feel free to PM rather than post openly if you prefer. Thanks.
Craig: is there a local club or meet-up?

As long as you have owned the car for more than 12 months the import duty shouldn't be too much if you import the car as a personal import. The difficult part is getting the Import approval which it seems that you have. Regulations for compliance vary from state to state and year to year so I cant help you much there, although I believe WA is a bit more relaxed than Qld where I am. Sorry I cant help much but there are a few Aussies on the other Triumphstag.net site and also on the Facebook fan club that may be able to help more. Alternatively you could email the SOC Australia and ask for their help?
            Cheers,
            Raoul

It was either on here or on the Stag Facebook Group a few months ago - someone up on the gold coast imported a Stag that was refurbished for him by Faversham Classics - I think. If you can fish out the detail, he will no doubt have some useful information. I seem to remember that there were all sorts of hassles (with costs) before he could put it on the road: like having it completely washed top and bottom to make sure that there were no pommie bugs in it.

There is a Triumph club but not Stag specific. I am not a member, too busy with the kids!

The guy that Don is thinking of is Mick Savage, he is on the Facebook Stag group. He lives in NSW, sure he would mind answering a few questions for you. Alternatively you could ask Faversham Classics what they had to do to export the car to Australia.

                  cheers,
