    Stag damaged!

Well they always say accidents happen five minutes from home, well mind just did. Just took the stag for a short drive to collect my daughter from town, burbling along nicely with the top down. Approaching town a small mini Roundabout ....Audi on left I have right of way, as I entered the roundabout she decided to go straight across me. I did my best in the short distance to avoid and brake but my front left collided with her offside front corner.
I got out and said surely you saw this coming, my car is topaz not exactly something you miss! I thought you were indicating left she said. I pointed out my indicators weren't on and the car was still pointing straight ahead virtually and I was heading into town not down into the housing estate the turn was for!
we have exchange details but I am gutted. The old girl looks to have taken the impact well the bumper is now pushed back and the lower front wing where it attached is slightly pushed in too. I'll try and post some pictures later. I am waiting for her to phone with her insurance details next ..... But I know from experience this is where they start to make excuses and the fun starts. It should be a clear cut case but no one of the sods passing or following me stopped.
as you can imagine really hacked off have put the old girl back in the garage and feel like opening a bottle....but will wait for my phone call first!
next this is where to get it assessed for possible repairs ...any ideas around where I am ashby de la zouch derbyshire Leicestershire border?
I am hoping she can be sorted. The bumper is scratched badly and much closer to the front panel I am hoping this could be just the brackets, but as always with old cars it could be far worse when I have a good look when I have calmed down.
not the best start to the weekend

Bad luck Glynn, often the Audi/BMW brigade think they own every bit of the road and ignore all else!
Hope its not too bad and you can still drive it ok.

    Cheers

Hi Glynn, Did you take photos of the cars in their accident positions? It proves your case and quells any argument.
      Cheers Ian A

        Hi Glynn,

Really sorry to hear that. Sounds like the case is pretty cut and dried just from the crash damage itsself! Whether you had been indicating or not is of litte relevance even if she tries to claim you were, as signalling is only an intention to turn in law and the other driver is supposed to satisfy themselves that you are indeed going to turn and if they get that wrong its down to them. I could be wrong, but I am sure I remember being told that many years ago by my driving instructor.

I think your right Ian I seem to recall the same thing. All I could think was that she saw the sun reflect in the light or something as it was blazing down earlier. It would have been right in her face effectively as it was to my right hand side.

I only took photos once we have moved as she immediately reversed her car out of the way. But frankly as you say Ian she pulled out from the left and the damage on the cars which I have pictures of shows clearly. The Stag is driveable as its really only the bumper and I have checked the wing it has not moved, just creased in the lower front where the bumper mounts which could be pulled out. Wether the bumper is still straight or not is another thing, I suspect the bumper brackets have taken the brunt of it I have just taken some clear photos so will upload them later.
I have just rang the number she gave me to get voicemail so I might have a drive round to the address shortly. I know she must be local as after I picked my daughter up I saw her again at another roundabout but this time she waited!

I just hate the aggravation of it all to be honest, I'm one of those sad sods that lets these things bother me!
          Thanks chaps

I had a similar near miss, mini roundabout, looked, left car approaching, looked right, clear, started to turn right, looked left, car shot straiggth through. Driver stared straight ahead, heading for tesco. Missed by inches. There by the grace of god we go. You have my sympathy.

                Evening Folks

Well after an eventful evening here are the pictures of the damage. Sorry about the size of the pictures photo bucket was giving me grief!

In fairness the old girl came off well and from what I can testament to her being reasonably solid

It shouldn’t be a hard fix, something I would normally tackle myself TBH but I shouldn’t have to so we will see where this heads. I have left a message but haven’t had a call back yet,but I do have address and reg etc.If I don’there by tomorrow I will ring the local police and report it too.

Here’s a shot from above over the front which shows you how the bumper is pushed back.

This shows where the lower wing has creased in

I reckon the bumper brackets havetaken a lot of it as I have checked and the mounting haven’t moved the winghasn’t either thank god. But I fear the bumper is bent now.
                Cheers Glyn

Sorry to hear of your knock. I had a old boy cut across me . I stayed in my lane going round the roundabout he ventured out of his lane and hit my side rear . I even displayed Google images of the position of the cars and it still went 50 50 . without a witness your buggered on a roundabout .

that's a real shame im always worried that I will find a plonker like this in my stag but it doesn't worry me in the modern ,although I've just invested a few quid in a small discreet camera with infra red filming ability for night time filming which works on 2 minute cycles and stores all on a card till its full then recycles . it comes on as soon as I start and off when I stop the motor but it is for the van as I drive a lot around London daily and meet some complete idiots .the whole thing cost about a score from amazon simple and good evidence .

Glyn for repairs - Pauls Motor Body repairs in Barwell, nr Hinckley, or of course you aren't far from Wards.

Paul's do a lot of classics. Paul is old school.

                        Sorry you had the bump.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

                          Grr

I woke this morning to find that some stacked logs in the garage had tumbled down onto the side of the car. How on earth they had moved and done this beats me-they have been there for ages!. Anyway I know have a selection of shallow dings on the wing and door of my perfect car. It had a thick cover over it so no scratches.

                          Paintless dent repair anyone?

                            Quick update
we have now exchanged insurers and claim in progress. I need to get an estimate for the damage. Wilf I might give the place in Hinckley a try have you used them yourself ?
i am hoping the damage isnt too bad although I suspect the bumper and the brackets are toast. Hopefully the wing will pull out once the bumper is detached
what's more annoying is I was planning further work next year on the other side this side has all been refurbished typical.
thanks for all the replies chaps. And Uzbek I feel your pain mate !
                            cheers

Sorry about this but the type of car does not reflect the type of driver..... and as a BMW driver with a perfectly clean accident record (for the last twenty years anyway) I at you....
