    Radiator Fan Cowl

I am thinking about purchasing a Stag weber Fan Cowl. I can't find any feed back on the product has anyone fitted one and does it work?

The tests run in the owners mag suggested it had a very slight effect if any (as far as I recall).

Like many cooling tweaks I suggest if you have a cooling problem it needs adressing at 'source' as it were and the cowl is unlikely to be a fix.

I completely agree that if you've a cooling problem then it should be addressed at source first.

IIRC the cooling tests showed that the cowl was the only configuration that helped stabilise temperatures whilst stationary. My thinking is that a cowl allows more air to be pulled through the radiator and as most modern cars use a cowl that manufacturers wouldn't spend money if there was no benefit.

I've got the StagWeber cowl fitted but our Stag's been off the road for a while, so cannot comment on the result. It is however a nicely made bit of kit and I'm very pleased with it.

I don't have a cooling problem as such I run a 80 litre electric water pump and ally radiator with viscous fan, no electric fan. The Stag travels through Europe in 40 degree heat without much rise in temperature, however this does rise when stuck in traffic. Last year in Italy I had a conversation with a chap living in Australia who tells me all Stags sent over had a cowl fitted by the factory and stated they have no heating issues with this fitted. Is it possible to buy these factory ones?

Here's Stagweber link. Chris Spain's a good guy with good products. I have several and they work well. Have a look.

I run my car virtually every day in temperatures of 25 to 35 deg I don't have a fan cowl, and the only time the temp goes up to halfway is giving it stick on the motorway normally it sits at E on the gauge. But then again I don't have fault with the cooling system, ( it has already been said) but fitting add on's will not solve problems, if you have one then fix it. Unless of course have a surplus of dosh then go ahead. Also there is little point in fitting a fan cowl if you have an axillary electric fan fitted. This is of course only an opinion but if my car does not need one I fail to see that anyone using their car in England does.

Just check that your radiator has the extra fixings for it. Each corner needs to have a place to fix it to. One of mine does, the other didn't. . . Still haven't had the car on the road to check it out yet... but does look the part.

Ive read that the original cowls were supplied by Triumph to overseas markets as part of a 'tropical kit' - long since obsolete

                        Hi
We bought our Stag from Cherished Classics of Leicester - un-driven beforehand, on the Internet. I was serving with the Civil Service in the Falklands. A few weeks later my wife and I flew back to UK and then drove the car to South of Spain near Gibraltar in July 12. I can tell you, never having driven a Stag and with such "bad press" about engine temperature problems - I was apprehensive to say the least. The temperature was up in the mid 30's on the way down and maybe higher during our first week here. Other than a minor bearing problem (sorted by some oil) on the torquatrol unit, we had no problems. The car has an electric fan too.
I am pretty paranoid though about engine temperatures. I have since fitted most of Chris Spain's products - expansion tank (which has a low water buzzer), radiator cowl and the fuse box. All are good quality and easy enough to fit. I have also fitted the indicator buzzer as I kept leaving the damn thing on.
But here is the thing - since we brought the car here over two years ago, I have been unable to drive it as I'm trying to import it into Spain. The Spanish are hung up on the body number by the front hinge of the bonnet and say (with no knowledge at all) that this should be the same as the Commission Number. Clearly it should not - it's not even in the same format, so the battle continues. Now they want a letter from Triumph! Give me strength!

All I can say is with the Kenlowe fan and the OEM fan, the car runs without problems at as high a temperature that you will experience in UK. But I am still pleased with the radiator cowl, even though I have yet to get any experience driving with it.

It was said above, manufacturers fit cowls on cars now and they would not waste money if they did not enhance the cooling properties of the radiator.

If you have ever been in the queues getting into or out of Gibraltar, you would share my paranoia!

Chris must be made up with you spending all that money Still as I said before if you don't have the ability to go round the breakers or repair things yourself and you have the money why not spend itI Have been stuck in traffic in Santa Cruz with temperatures approaching 40c with no fan cowl in sight and I still don't share your paranoia. That aside, the authorities over here will not accept the (numero de identification) on a plate it has to be stamped on to the vehicle. Both Terry and myself had to stamp the LH suspension turret. Hope this helps
