3/8 BSP. Yes I know it looks bigger but for some reason BSP is different to anything else.

Hi Roger, thanks for the reply. For some reason thought it was 1/2". I bought a dual gauge and thought I'd need an extension or adaptor (from previous threads) but didn't know what size. They sent me an extender so I'll see if it fits or needs size adaptor.

BTW the gauge came from an MGB place called MGBeehive in Cambs - very good service and cheaper than others I looked at.

        Hi Paul

I thought the same as you, that it looks about 1/2" but for some reason it's classed as 3/8 BSP, the other common size is 1/4 BSP although it looks more like 3/8" then you get 1/8 BSP and that looks about 1/4". Doesn't make any sense to me.

Thanks for this. I was ok until I got to "BSPP" and then lost the will to read.

Actually its very ineresting, I believe Whitworth was the first to standardise on thread sizes, until then all nuts and bolts generally resembled thecollectionI have in the bottom of my tool box. Bought up on UNF spanner sizes, it still baffles me why BA sizes get smaller as they get bigger. The Yanks got something right.

Many years ago Cortinas were made with UK engines and European gearboxes (or the other way round?), which made replacing clutch interesting as some bellhousing bolts were imperial, others metric.
