    Boot lid keeps co,img undone

I shut my bootlid and it feels secure, I cannot induce it to come undone by hand, but just a few miles down the road and it pops undone.
I have adjusted it so that the flat of the round locating catch peg in the lid itself is even a little past horizontal, but it still comes undone, I cannot move the catch plate any further to the right of the car as I am worried about not being able to open the boot as it is, I have to push the button in all the way and then it only just releases.

Pressing my button doesn't turn the catch peg a full 90%, more like 45% I presume it should turn it 90%

    Any ideas?

    Cheers
    Pere

Before adjusting any tighter, install wife in boot with screwdriver and torch so she can open it again should you over tighten to mechanism and be unable to open it from the outside .

Boot lock mechanism is fairly simple compared to some. remove the latch and makes sure nothing is seized or bent I reckon. Mine opens on a half plunger press and never opens on the move.

Mine does it too. Good firm slam stops it opening on the move. I tried adjusting it and it seemed incredibly fickle, bewteen unable to open and springing up at the slightest bump. I have settled for my compromise!

I had this problem for some time and was rather baffled as to how to correct it. It appeared to happen due to movement of the body when going over an uneven surface. I have a spacer which I intended to put behind the boot catch but for some reason the problem resolved itself and I never used it. Don't know the answer but the boot sealing rubber might have something to do with the problem.

Mine did it too. Fine adjustment seems to have cured it.

I had this problem on my Stag engine Estate. The Estate uses the same boot catch as the Stag and no amount of adjustment would stop it popping open, though I would expect more body wriggle on the tailgate than on a boot lid. In the end a new striker plate from Rimmers was the cure, IIRC the edges of the old one had rounded off slightly.

My stag has the same problem - still pops open after 7 years of adjustment! My MGB mate just laughed after following me and said he was chuffed to see that I had fixed the boot light after many years!

i also used to have this fault and replaced the new boot seal fitted by the p/o with one which was more pliable and allowed the bot lid to stay firmly closed no more issues.

So today I adjusted the button via the square plastic nut so there is no play whatsoever, I discovered that the round catch that turns will turn further than the button operates it so decided that once the button has turned it to an angle, it then becomes a ramp that will turn further from pressure via lifting the boot lid, so I was confident I wouldnt end up with a boot that cannot open.
I then adjusted the catch plate and am now in the position that pushing the button doesnt pop the lid on its own, but just a small tug on the boot lid releases it, so I am confident it will be OK now, though have yet to test on the road.

Hi, I have the same problem on mine. My workaround is to lock the boot before going on a drive. That seems to work in that it has never opened while being driven since. If I forget to lock it, it will open within 3-4 miles. Must get round to looking at it properly one day!

                        Cheers
