Three things I'd say: firstl, if you have got to stand it up, use some of the tubular foam insulation that's used for copper pipes (22 mm) to protect the top and bottom edges.
Next, you can buy frames to stand them on - they're not cheap though so maybe you could make one up if you wanted. The club shop sells one.
Finally, the best thing, if you can do it, is to hang it from the roof. If you do a search on here you'll find lots of info and pics where people have done it. I hope I'll be able to do this when I finish my garage - unfortunately, I've bu****ed my back so work on that has come to a standstill for now
It depends on your storage facilities. There are several options for raising/storing a hardtop in a garage using winches fixed to the roof. If you have an apex roof it is much easier. I use a trailer winch bolted to the garage wall and an old roof rack which I attach to the hard top and then raise it into the roof. Been doing that for 12 years now and it works fine.
Others get help to lift it off and store it in a purpose made rack. These used to be available through the SOC shop, but don't seem to be listed any more.

I have made two timber cradles hung from the garage roof and covered them with old carpet and the hardtop just lifts off the car and sits horizontal up there covered with polythene. will post photo just made the cradle from 2x2 timber screwed together. I say just lift it up but I do need the help of my very fit son. it sits over the bonnet area only problem cannot leave the bonnet up under the hardtop as garage is not high enough. I can raise the bonnet but not fully enough to use the stay. Quite easy to do cost not more than £ 10

I got a hard top stand cover on amazon from UK Custom Covers - it's brilliant and for £79 I can't see there are many better options, having researched this for a while. it has wheels and handy straps so ideal, but needs a bit of focus when you put together! It takes 45 mins to assemble.
