    what V8 engines

while at the surrey N&N last night, we got talking about what V8 engine would fit into the Stag. A ford 302 was mentioned as it was thought thephysical size and weight was about the same as the TV8 - My question is, has this transplant ever been carried outwith any great success?.

Don't know about the Ford 302 but there is a Stag around with a Lexus Soarer V8.

REALLY?!! I have a Soarer V8, and the engine is absolutely awesome! This car is sold in America. It is called an SC400. Some of these cars are running around with 400k on the clock. Mine has done near 200k and all I have done is change timing belts, plugs and oil. Who has the stag with this engine?

I like the idea of the small block Ford V8 (Windsor 302, 289 etc)because it is in period with the Stag. It would look great under the bonnet with a nice big Holley or Edelbrock carb and air cleaner. I just cant get interested in any classic car conversions using modern engines. Even worse, I have heard people mention diesel engines, yuk!

The Windsor engine has plenty of torque at low revs which I thinkwould suit the heavy Stag well, and would keep the classic feel. Even the 260 engine Sunbeam Tiger has 245 ft lb or torque (more in Mk1 Cobra form).

I'm very sorry to have to say that the club's interpretation of the Data Protection Act (Some strange Freudian slip of my typing made that Data Prevention Act!) does not allow me to pass his name and/or address out. However, perhaps he could announce himself onto the forum when the game would be on!

Seriously, work was going on a couple of years ago and I have a dozen or so pictures. Maybe it's finished now.

            Chris,

you hit the nail on the head, the whole idea of using the 302 or even 260, 289 was keep the period feel - just the thought of putting a modern V8 is a no no. all we need now is for Colin (surreyone) to cough up:P

                Hi Ian,

It does not get any better (a part froma Holley to get the hump sorted).

I like the optimistic comment "Although I used the Corvette rear end, the stock unit would probably hold up just fine"

I've always thought the Lotus 3.5lt V8 would be a nice alternative, being british and all.

Although it did have its own problems unfortunately.

I got one already (albeita 260), its just in a different shape car! But I need an interesting project, and the 302 Stag has some appeal. Come on Colin, put your money where your mouth is. Or are you all talk???

I can just imagine the fun with a Lotus (Lot of Trouble, etc.) enginein a Triumph 'Snag'.

As if we didn't have enough nightmares .
