      Ian,

      The driveshafts come from a range of 70s / 80s datsuns e.g. 120Y, rwd bluebird, 240Z etc.

Since the Datsun UJ bearing caps have a larger diameter and the span of the whole joint is larger, with circlip retension on the inside, I had the hub and diff flange machined to fit them. The added complication is that they must be rotationally true after milling.

Cost - difficult to say because I've been "chipping away" at the project for a good while, & the cost of reamers etc.

Another alternative is conversion UJs available from Australia but these are expensive even before shipping costs.

Another mod I've just carried out is moving the alternator to the other side of the engine bay. My other stag that I'm restoring the body on, has the old style tubular manifolds that required the altenator to be moved to the A/C compressor point - effectively using some of the PAS pump mounting points on the other head. When working on the recently purchased Stag, I really couldn't be doing with the lack of access and clearance for the bottom hose etc. Now the altenator is a "breeze" to get to and the bottom rad hose has "bags" of clearance.

The mod just requires a suitable bracket making up and a very simple extension to the wiring. I chose to shorten the sliding section of the existing alternator bracket, which is still used and to use a shorter belt than the pas belt to give more clearance against the inner wing.

          Hi.

I got the float switch from CPC.co.uk (where I most of my stuff !) stock number SN35500 The web site shows this as being out of stock now, but it gives the manufacturer, so you should be able to track one down. Fitting is straightforward. it should be fitted as low as possible in the bottle, just make the correct size hole in a nice smooth part of the wall, and fit from the inside. it comes with rubber washers (fit one each side of bottle) and then tighten up the plastic nut. connect one wire to earth, and the other to the seatbelt side of the seat belt warning light. I will take a photo when I get a chance, but it's realy quite easy.

          Bob.
