    turnover jig - its arrived

Hi new turnover jig arrived today. The local fabricator has done me proud. It is even colour cordinated with the car

Here are a few photos. I will try fitting it to the car on Saturday, weather permitting:shock:

A big thanks to the guys from the Notts/Derby SOC area that gave me the sketches and dimensions to work from.

          Hi Rubce

The jig looks a nice piece of fabrication I can't quite decide how it fits it looks as though it attaches across the bumper brackets . I will be interested to see the pics of it attached and to hear how easy it is to fit and operate. Are the drawings and dimensions available or were they supplied as a favour

          Regards Tony

            Hi TOny

Yes it connects to the shell where the bumpers normally go. I will post some photos of the car in it after tomorrow.

Here is a photo of my latest aquisition,a 500kg hoist.

Wow that looks a serious piece of kit but I suppose what will lift a lot will lift a little !

At least you wont have all the agravationof a haltrack hoist hung from the garage roof and finding you dont quite have the height to get engine and box out in one piece. Good luck with the project I look to following your progress

I admit it is slightly on the large side but it only costs me ÂŁ11.75and delivery was free.

I will be painting it the same colour as the house to lessen its visual impact. Plus I might chop it down a bit in height at some point in the future.

Actually that is not true. Chain blocks should NOT be used to lift less than 10% of their Safe Working Load.

If I'd turned up with a gantry that size at my place, SWMBO would have had a total SOH failure!

Are you able to share the dimensionsand specs for the spit roast?

                          regards,

Hi Dave Thats interesting do you know why that is

looking at it another way you should always operate at at least 90 % of SWL which severely limits the range I thought as long as the load was heavy enough to overcome the stiction in the chain block it was ok . Obviously not so

                            Tony

                              Tony,

Following a few incidents of this nature the following is a quote from one of our industry safety alerts from 2004:

The International Rigging & Lifting Handbook contains a warning to “avoid lifting loads below 10% of the hoist’s capacity and NEVER lift loads below 5% of capacity as the weight of the load may not be enough to activate the friction brake. Paragraph 133 of the HSE Technical Guidance on the Safe Use of Lifting Equipment Offshore (HSG 221 published 2002) states ”Chain/lever hoists should also be subjected to a light load test to validate the effectiveness of the braking system…. The light load is meant for test purposes only and the chain hoist should not be used to lift loads of under 10% of the SWL for normal operations.”
