    Parts Quality (again)

Following other members experiences with poor quality parts, which Julian took up with some considerable effort on this forum, it seems a shame if, after such efforts, that nothing really changes.

I would like to see a separate section on the forum to log bad component quality. The that section could be searched for titles that match parts that we may be considering. Armed with the knowledge, we are then able to question suppliers before making a purchase.

I have not bought many new parts, but those I use regularly are hood parts. My experience is as follows: Supplier was not able/willing to correct the problem, and as a result I have to modify the parts as best as I can.

Hood side catches: holes are incorrect spacing; this means there is virtually no vertical adjustment of the catch when fitted to the frame.

Hood rear plunger/striker: There is a clinch nut which falls out after use; the old design used a welded nut which worked fine. Result: I have to refit and/or weld the clinch nut.

Excellent idea, especially after my last one with the CV propshaft and on which I have had no response at all yet from the suppliers - Very bad!

Can only recount my own experience- with front chrome horseshoes-one wouldn't fit so contacted supplier (EJ WARDS-no connection) who promptly sent me another which they had tried on a restoration they had in-trusting me to return the 1st-excellent service, not so sure it would have been dealt with the same from other well known suppliers. I think there is a lot of supply and forget unfortunately nowadays.

I can only reiterate rac's above comments about EJ Wards (again no connection ) always been a pleasure to deal with
Iv had faulty relays from them , only to be told don't worry take another and return the faulty on when passing next
Sometimes its best not always best to look for the cheapest supplier , but one with the best service

I think it's a pity that we cannot have a name and shame section on the forum where members can freely recount their good/bad experiences with suppliers and who they are because lets face it they rely on such as us to survive. let the good prosper and the bad fade away!!

I've not had the same experience but unfortunately you are not allowed to name and shame on here.

robsport have been brilliant with me,not had many problems but the few I did have they sorted without any problems.naming and shaming can be a way to warn people but what happens when you get the man who cannot fit parts correctly or damages parts through negligence then seeks to put the blame elsewhere?

Hmm perhaps one scenario that could occur jeff but lets face it there are a lot of parts being peddled that don't need a lot of skill or know how to fit that are failing prematurely- rubber bushes etc.

I think accepting quickly if a part is faulty/wrong and allowing a no quibble refund says a huge amount about service and not putting a time block on from when you bought it if clearly the part has either not been used or it can be demonstrated that it failed after first fitment/use.

To be fair to Rimmers they have now done just that with my faulty prop' so we are friends again!
